What is the GLA:D® Switzerland Osteoarthritis Program?
The acronym GLA:D® stands for Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark. The program, which consists of the three areas of "advice and instruction", "exercises" and "quality control by means of data collection", was introduced in Denmark in 2013.
The goal of GLA:D® is to enable people with osteoarthritis to have a good quality of life.
How does the GLA:D® Switzerland Osteoarthritis Program work?
Patients go through the so-called 3 - 2 - 12 - 1 program with their certified GLA:D® physiotherapist:
3 individual sessions with initial examination, tests and practical introduction to the exercise program |
2 group sessions with counseling and instruction |
12 group sessions with neuromuscular exercise program |
1 individual session with exit examination, including a short report to the referring physician. |
Why should I choose GLA:D® Switzerland?
The GLA:D® Switzerland Osteoarthritis Program is an overall concept and is offered and carried out by specially trained and certified physiotherapists. After completing the program, patients have sufficient skills to manage their knee or hip problems independently. This is also confirmed by the long-term results after 12 months. Pain, walking ability and quality of life were significantly better after 3 and 12 months and did not show a decrease in improvement after 12 months, as is often the case with other treatment methods. Thus, patients can benefit from greater physical activity, which improves their quality of life. The GLA:D® Switzerland Osteoarthritis Program is covered by health insurance if prescribed by a physician.
